A Helpful Response from Airwars

Just a few hours ago I commented on yesterday’s House of Lords discussion on casualty recording.  I asked for some clarification from Airwars and, lo, Chris Woods has answered.

We maintain two separate datasets for the Coalition – the civcas one here.

And the official Coalition/ member nation press releases here.

It’s the latter which brings together not just the Coalition’s daily reports, but all known reports by individual Coalition partners. This allows us to cross-match where possible against alleged civcas cases.

But two thirds of Coalition members refuse to say where (or sometimes even when, or which country) they bomb – meaning attribution is extremely challenging.

Indeed 12 of 13 Coalition members (just like Russia) claim their bombs are so perfect they don’t kill non-combatants. Only the US has ever admitted civcas (presently 42 fatalities.) Lord Howe is not alone in his faith in the infallibility of aerial warfare.
